Das Werk wurde als einziges am gesamten Mauerstreifen als Deponie für Baumaterial missbraucht.

As the single one work on this particular stripe of the Wall it was abused as a depot for building material.

8. August 1995, Umbenennung des Werks in „Niemandsland“ als Protestaktion des Künstlers, gemeinsam

mit dem Berliner Senator Thomas Krüger (MdB). Auch eine Solidaritätsbekundung des damaligen Senators für

die Anliegen des Künstlers in Sachen East Side Gallery und den humanistischen Inhalten des Gemäldes Vater-

land. Eine Aktion gegen den zunehmenden Verfall und der Verwahrlosung der Mauergalerie und dem re-

spektlosen Umgang mit dem Werk Vaterland.

August 8, 1995, renaming of the work in “No Man’s Land“, a protest of the artist together with the Berlin senator

Thomas Krüger (MdB – Member of the German parliament). Also an act of solidarity of the former senator that

supports the artist in his concerns about the East Side Gallery and the humanist contents of the painting “Vater-

land.“ An action against the Wall-Gallery’s increasing decay and dilapidation, and the respectless treatment of the

work of art “Vaterland.“
